WASHAdvocates – WASH & Nutrition: Partnering for a Healthier Future |

Undernutrition is the biggest underlying cause of death in under-five-year-olds in the world and is responsible for 8,000 child deaths each day. For this reason, world leaders and donors are placing increased importance to this global crisis and its solutions.  This past June in London, governments and donors committed over $23 billion to prevent 20 million children from being stunted and save 1.7 million lives through nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions by 2020 in the Nutrition for Growth Compact. In September, the 1,000 Days Partnership released a renewed Call to Action  to accelerate progress and intensify the focus on eliminating malnutrition. WASHNutrition

Not only is nutrition necessary for child survival during the first two years of life, it is necessary for physical growth, cognitive functioning, and continued well-being throughout life. The physical growth and cognitive development of children has enormous impacts on entire communities’ health and economic well-being.
